The Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State, has made history by unveiling OKIN EV1, the first locally built electric vehicle in Nigeria. This innovation marks a huge step forward in the nation’s journey toward sustainable transportation and technological advancement.

Features of the OKIN EV1

The solar-powered OKIN EV1 is designed to travel up to 125 kilometers on a full charge — enough to cover a round trip between Offa and Ilorin without recharging.

  • A touchscreen display for enhanced user experience
  • A reverse camera for improved safety and convenience

Built in Record Time

According to information gathered, the vehicle was developed in less than six months by a dedicated research and engineering team led by Engr. Dr. Olufemi Oluseye Kehinde. This reflects the institution’s commitment to innovation and practical solutions for modern challenges.

Plans for Mass Production

The Federal Polytechnic Offa has announced that the prototype will undergo further refinement before entering large-scale production. Once ready, the initiative is expected to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s sustainable transportation sector and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
